sunrise over the lake …

Those of you who know me well know that I don’t often do sunrise.   But I was at the lake and awake, and I snuck out of the room to see.  It was a cloudy morning, but still beautiful.  Not a single soul in sight.  I wish that I could bottle the stillness of that morning, and the fresh country air and share it with all of you.  I hope you enjoy this peaceful scene as much as I did.

Best,

Stephanie

everything’s better in the water …

We took a tour of Lake Otsego up at Cooperstown.  All I can say is, “ahhh…”  It was so beautiful, and so unbelievably relaxing.  The lake is about 9 miles long, so there is a lot of beautiful scenery to enjoy.   The first photograph is the Glimmerglass Queen.  James Fenimore Cooper (author of “The Last of the Mohicans”, amongst others, gave the lake the nickname Glimmerglass, a period term for a mirror.)  The other photos are from on the boat.

And then after dinner on the shore, we went back to the lake to dip in our toes and enjoy the sunset …

Just a few more photographs of our trip ahead, and then on to new things!   I hope you all find something beautiful in your corner of the world, and take a moment to appreciate it.

P.S. Many thanks to Anonymous who caught my error.  Never blog while exhausted!  Thanks!

historic village

Just a few more vacation photos here.  We visited an historic village up there called the Farmer’s Museum.  The kids really enjoyed getting a glimpse into the past. I’m just going to post the photos, and if anyone has any questions, feel free.   By the way, clicking on them will open them in a new window, larger.

Stephanie

on the road again …

We didn’t have a ton of time, so we decided to take a road trip upstate New York.  It is a whole different world up there than my old Long Island …

Cooperstown 081610 008e2We were definitely in farm country.  We drove through some small towns, and I was saddened to see just how hard the economy hit them upstate.  Pretty little towns, with nearly every other building boarded up.  We saw a lot of them.  Is Main Street America still alive and well by you?

Cooperstown 081610 009e  But then we hit Cooperstown.  It is a pretty little town, and of course, home to the Baseball Hall of Fame.  Baseball, USA.

Sorry about that … Yankee Fan!    And after lunch and a walk around town, we drove over to the hotel, right on the lake …

still busy as a bee here …

008 So I only have a few minutes, but I will share a few photos I snapped over the weekend.  This Crepe Myrtle and the yellow flowers are at my dad’s house.  I love the bokeh in the above photo.  (Can you see the little yellowjacket below? He’s hiding a little.  Hint:  Look at the center of the photo).

they’re here!

002Some of them are still growing the wrong way, but the tomatoes are finally ready to eat.  The kids have had a ball picking these little cherry tomatoes.  They never have made it to the dinner table, but that’s OK.  I’m all for a sweet little snack that’s good for you.  (That green background is just the bushes behind the tomatoes – I liked the effect.)  Sorry the posting has been scarce – with my sister here from out of town, we’ve been busy.  Hope you all have a great week, and I’ll try to get back here soon!

summer sundays …

I’m a little behind on my posting, with all the computer woes I had last week.  But everything is finally back on the computer and it is doing well so far.  Fingers crossed!

But last weekend, we took a ride out east to the North Fork of Long Island.   We had lunch at Lobster Roll Northside.  We’d only eaten at the one in the Hamptons before, but this one was just as good.  I had a yummy lobster roll, and as I looked down at the last bite, I thought, Uh-oh, I was planning on taking a photo of that!  oops!  002e

Then we went for a walk and finally ended up picking peaches at a farm.  SO many yellowjackets but thankfully no stings!

011e 015 020 024 And then we headed on home.

Hope your summer has been sweet and delicious!
