Today’s post is just a few more photos from our walk in Central Park. The first one is a photo of Belvedere Castle I got from Wikipedia, since we didn’t walk around that side. I just wanted to show you where we were when I took the photo in my last post. The rest of these are mine. Central Park is a very nice break from the hustle of the city. I hate spiders but I like webs – they’re such masterpieces of nature. This wonder – it was about 2 feet across! - appeared one morning outside the window near my desk, and was gone the next day. Take a walk outside today (It finally cooled off enough here to go out!) and look for a small natural beauty that you may have overlooked.

An evening walk through my dad’s garden yielded these lovelies. It was dark out, but I couldn’t resist. My little one said it was just like Old Westbury Gardens, only better – because this garden has her grandfather in it. (Um, yeah, dad is a goner for this little imp!) Driving in the US used to mean seeing these signs painted on barns all over rural roads. We came upon this one and it made me realize that I haven’t see one in many years. I wonder what happened to this trend. Have you seen any recently?

dark chocolate frosting …
3 sumptuous layers …
strawberry, vanilla, and chocolate … Yum!
This cake takes a bit of time, but is easy to make. For the frosting, just substitute dark chocolate for regular in a basic chocolate frosting recipe. And then just bake your favorite version of the other flavors and layer them up. I may try this one with pistachio instead of the strawberry too. What flavors do you think would work?

It wouldn’t be the 4th of July without red, white and blue
and sparklers …
This wasn’t the prettiest of the cupcakes, but it was the only one left by the time I got out the camera. Most of them were striped, but you get the idea. To make these, just take your favorite white cake, separate the batter into three, and color one third red, and one blue. Pour it in your cupcake pan and you’re good to go.
