About two hours from our house, is Mystic Seaport, Connecticut. It is a great place to experience the seafaring life that was such a part of life on the East Coast in the early years of our country. The photo quality isn’t great. They’re a few years old, and were taken with an old point and shoot I had, and then when my hard drive crashed, I had to save them from an on-line copy. But I think you still get a good feel for the place. You can see many restored homes and businesses as you walk through town.
There is even a small planetarium, and a museum with artifacts related to sailing, and a collection of figureheads.
There are programs and exhibits year round, but my favorite thing to do is walk along the waterfront in the summertime, and go on the old schooners and ships. Then take a walk down dusty streets with a fresh sqeezed lemonade, sit by the gazebo and watch the ships go by … with my three favorite sailors … Best,
Stephanie
I love the photos, Stephanie. This post reminds me of the movie Mystic Pizza. Pretty good movie.
ReplyDeleteWe traveled up to Door County Wisconsin a few years ago. There are villages up there that are very similar to this one.
Stephanie....how cute are your three sailors! What a fun trip....love the photos. I was in Mystic years ago and forgot what it had to offer. Looks like a great outing. I can never get enough of those old New England homes...just beautiful!!

Thanks you taking us along with your family on this great trip. Sometimes seeing things through a lens is not all bad.
ReplyDeleteHow sweet! I remember many field trips to Mystic...always rained! :(
ReplyDeleteCute sailors and the area looks so wonderful, you make me want to plan an east coast trip. Have some delicious chocolate bunnies this weekend. All the best ~XO

ReplyDeleteYour sailors are adorable! My daughter saw yours and she asked me if that was her new friend. And I said, yes, of course, cause you never know, perhaps someday we'll get to meet, even if your daughter is a little older.
