august …

Cooperstown 081910 010ed"The first week of August hangs at the very top of summer, the top of the live-long year, like the highest seat of a Ferris wheel when it pauses in its turning.  The weeks that come before are only a climb from the balmy spring, and those that follow a drop to the chill of autumn, but the first week of August is motionless, and hot.  It is curiously silent, too, with blank white dawns and glaring noons, and sunsets smeared with too much color.”

- from Tuck Everlasting

Best,

Stephanie

P.S. My little one read this book in school this year, and I’ve been waiting to use this quote since.  It had been years since I looked at the book, and the first time as an adult.  There were some beautiful written words.  More to come, soon.

ETA:  I just saw the same quote on another, far more well known and popular blogger.  Funny how things work out sometime!  If you haven’t see her blog, please check out Habitually Chic for some stunning inspiration.

  1. How sweet and true, Stephanie. We've seen the movie but never read the book and will definitely be adding it to the reading list... Perhaps for the fall so that we can remember the slow days of summer.

  3. Your photo "looks" like August. I didn't recognize the quote, but as as soon as I saw Tuck Everlasting...of course. Now if you had quoted something from a Nora Ephron movie or screenplay...well then no problem for me!
