destinations

I came across this hotel in a travel letter I subscribe to.  Oh, my.  My travel letter has expensive tastes!  This is Wheatleigh.

And what a setting! A 19th century Florentine palazzo nestled in the Berkshire Mountains.  It was a private home, converted to a hotel.

This is a particularly lovely rural area.  I’ve been fortunate enough to have gone many times.  We’ve stayed in a little log cabin, and a friend often offered us the use of her lake house in Monterey, a Victorian farmhouse with a wraparound porch.  It is so serene and lovely.  There is also great exposure to the arts, particularly at Tanglewood.  There is access to the area’s lakes, and more: hot air balloons, hiking, and just about any outdoor activity you can think of, including skiing.  And, especially in the summertime, there are farm stands where you will definitely want to stop and bring home some goodies.

Edith Wharton’s home, The Mount, located in Lenox in the Berkshires is pictured below.  And that is the back view.

So while you don’t have to stay at Wheatleigh, you should definitely consider a trip to the area.  It really is nature at its best.

Best,

Stephanie
