kyma …

Recently, we went to a great new local restaurant.  It’s a Greek restaurant, and the food was delicious.   Decorated in blue and white, with fruit and olive trees all around, it was a little bit like going back to Greece.  It’s called Kyma, which means “wave” in Greek.

We started with the classic salad.  Here in the States, anything with feta cheese is labeled Greek Salad, but this i s the real deal.  No lettuce, just ripe tomatoes, cucumber, onion, and feta cheese with a little oregano on top, and a drizzle of Greek olive oil.  Sometimes, at your little taverna, you will find some peppers, or olives, or capers added in.   Oh my … this one really took me back to eating simple, fresh, well prepared food in beachside tavernas in the Greek Islands.

Another traditional Greek food is eggplant and zucchini sliced up and lightly fried.  So good, and these paper thin slices and tzatziki sauce were a nice twist on the traditional, while still keeping it real, and simple.  Those little things you see around are pieces of fried cheese, another Greek staple.

If you ever find yourself in my neck of the woods, this is one wave you’ll want to catch.

Best,

Stephanie

  2. Lol, i would be looking for the lettuce! I pick out the cukes and olives. Love feta and I have to have some red onion too! But I have never been to Greece, so I don't know the real deal!
Hope you are enjoying summet, finally a break in the heat! My hydrangeas are fried! It was a good year for them though!
